Sugar Shim Class

December 7, 2019 11am - 2pm at the barn

Come and learn to make sugar shims for winter feeding of your bees.  This feeding method can help ensure your bees have a healthy store of food over the cold months. Topics covered will include the shim construction, shim filling and mixing of the feed. Come and join us! For more information and to let us know you're coming please email us at

In May, SHP hosted students from the Loudoun Country Day School for a day of hands-on learning and working with bees. Education is a big part of our mission.  See the highlights in the video below.

SHP is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that promotes sustainable practices in beekeeping. In addition, our program is distributed both domestically and internationally as a vehicle for regional economic development.

Winter Is Coming

The cold weather is here!  Hopefully is everyone is mite free and well prepared for the Winter dearth. Attend our shim class to see how you can help give your bees some stores.

Long-term planning

With the passing of Billy and changes in the SHP operations, we are taking time to consider the future of SHP.  Look for announcements coming soon...
